San Felipe Wash is a popular area for hikers as it runs past Tamarisk Grove and is near to the highway as seen in the painting.  This particular landscape is decorated with desert wild flowers and cactus.  Here you can see Ocotillo cactus, the tall fingerlike plant with red flowers on the tips, Red Barrel and Beavertail cactus, Brittlebush, the bluish bush with yellow flowers and Chuparosa, the bright red bush.  If you look closely a rattle snake can be seen slithering over the wash.
