of the Anza Borrego Desert and Other Arid Landscapes

These realistic nature paintings are of actual places primarily in the Anza
Borrego Desert. We visit Borrego every year in different seasons.
Varying the time of year we go allows us to experience all that this amazing
place has to offer.
To capture the essence of this Southwestern Desert in my paintings I use photography, taking numerous pictures of my subjects from as many angles and positions as I can and during different times of the day. I then go back to my studio to study those photos and begin creating the painting. Some of our desert paintings are not of the Borrego Desert. We occasionally will travel to "Joshua Tree" National Park, on the northern edge of the Sonoran Desert. We also have traveled to the deserts of Arizona where the fauna and flora differ from our California deserts. The opportunity to find subject matter to paint comes easy in the desert. I look forward to years of discovering and painting the wide array of flora there, the illusive wild life which includes mammals, insects and amphibians and also the many captivating desert structures and buildings with the local peoples.
